Rich Mastrolia - Valley Perinatal

Experienced Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician brings expertise in high-risk pregnancy, cardio-obstetrics, clinical quality and physician education to Valley Perinatal Services

CHANDLER, Ariz.  — Valley Perinatal Services (VPS), a leading provider of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and high-risk pregnancy care in Arizona, is pleased to welcome Rich Mastrolia, MD, to its Chandler location. Dr. Mastrolia brings extensive experience in complex obstetrical care, clinical leadership, medical education and quality improvement, with a particular clinical interest in cardio-obstetrics.

Board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Dr. Mastrolia joins Valley Perinatal after previously serving as Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division Director at Advocate Aurora Health and as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aurora Women’s Pavilion.

“Valley Perinatal Services has created an avant-garde model for women’s health that is patient-centered and drives quality,” said Dr. Mastrolia. “The practice model is visionary and transformative. Most importantly, VPS has assembled an incredibly talented group of MFM physicians, support professionals and leaders. I am humbled by the opportunity to work alongside such an exceptional team.”

Dr. Mastrolia earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at St. Luke’s Hospital and completed his fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

His passion for Maternal-Fetal Medicine began during his second year of OB/GYN residency, when his exposure to critical care obstetrics, fetal medicine and a large population of high-risk patients demonstrated the profound impact MFM specialists can have on both maternal and fetal outcomes.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mastrolia has developed a particular passion for cardio-obstetrics, including experience in the programmatic development of a center of excellence focused on cardiac care during pregnancy. His procedural expertise includes chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis and cerclage placement. He also brings extensive experience in medical education, clinical leadership and quality assurance.

At the center of Dr. Mastrolia’s approach to medicine is the belief that exceptional care begins with human connection.

“I believe human connection is the most important aspect of healing,” said Dr. Mastrolia. “I place great emphasis on creating a psychologically safe space and leading with compassion. Patients need to know that we are invested in them and their families and that we are here to support them.”

When helping families navigate complex or unexpected pregnancies, Dr. Mastrolia emphasizes clear communication, evidence-based medicine and shared decision-making. His goal is to make complex medical information accessible, develop a comprehensive care plan and ensure patients feel heard, informed and confident in the care they receive.

He also places a strong emphasis on collaboration with the OB/GYNs and other healthcare professionals who refer patients to Valley Perinatal.

“I always place patients first and take great pride in providing excellent care and making the patient feel supported,” Dr. Mastrolia said. “I am also a great believer in excellent communication as well as close collaboration with our referring providers.”

Dr. Mastrolia will care for patients at Valley Perinatal Services’ Chandler location, expanding access to experienced Maternal-Fetal Medicine care for patients and referring providers throughout Chandler and the East Valley.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Mastrolia enjoys traveling, cooking, wine collecting, fitness and attending heavy metal concerts and festivals with his children. A first-generation American and son of Italian immigrants, he speaks fluent Italian and maintains close ties to his family’s roots in Italy’s Campania region. He and his wife, Justine, have three children and frequently travel to Australia, where Justine is originally from.
